Of all the areas in the bathroom, the medicine cabinet is the most challenging to find eco-friendly products.  The EWG doesn’t rate these products and many others online don’t provide thoughts or evaluations on what is out there.

One important thing to keep in mind is to check with your doctor to ensure new brands and DIY recipes don’t contain ingredients that wouldn’t be right for you.

Eco-Friendly Brands to Consider

While One Shade Greener at Home goes into detail with brand recommendations for specific needs, I did find several “all-purpose” brands that offered multiple medicine cabinet products.

  • Forces of Nature Medicine: First aid, cold and flu, pain relief, skincare, and sleep products. They are the first company to manufacture USDA Certified Organic and FDA registered medicines. www.forcesofnaturemedicine.com
  • Badger: Sunscreen, bug spray, wellness products, skincare, and more.  Badger is a B-Corp located in rural New Hampshire. www.badgerbalm.com
  • Hilma: Digestive, respiratory, and sleep products.  The company has many certifications and the products are made in the US. www.hilma.co
  • Traditional Medicinals: Teas, lozenges, and capsules for pain, sleep, digestive issues, and more.  This brand is a certified B-Corp and located in California. www.traditionalmedicinals.com
  • Asutra: Pain relief, sleep support, exercise recovery, and rest and relaxation.  The company is based in Chicago and is focused on organic ingredients. www.asutra.com
  • Etsy: There are many great small makers focused on all-natural products.  Just type in what you are looking for and alternatives will pop up. www.etsy.com

DIY Solutions

Like the brands, the book has DIY ideas for multiple ailments.  Below are two to get you started on the journey if DIY is right for you.

Pain Relief: Essential oils, including lavender, rosemary, and eucalyptus, have been used directly to relieve pain.  Online, you can find recipes to make sticks and balms for your need that you would have on hand for when the pain hits.

Cuts and Small Burns: My go-to natural remedy is to cut a leaf off my aloe vera plant and rub the juice on the wound and cover with a bandage.  If you are looking for an alternative to the plant, there are many recipes online.  They contain ingredients like beeswax, coconut oil, tea tree oil, and calendula.

Summary

Today is a great day to think about your medicine cabinet and check out some brands that could make the space One Shade Greener.
