A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about the triple bottom line – the balance of people, planet, and profit.
Each of the three areas is complex and ever evolving.
Companies struggle to put emphasis on all three at once.
Many established companies are overwhelmed and don’t know where to start.
Some dive into people – customer experience, employee experience, DE&I, and more.
Others dive into the planet – carbon neutral targets, enhanced recycling, product changes and more.
Profit is usually embedded in both, and everything tends to be grounded in technology and innovation.
My Perspective
The positive is that companies are moving.
Perspectives are changing and we are looking for ways to do things better.
People Matter.
The Planet Matters.
We can’t advance either without ensuring our companies are profitable.
I would encourage any company who feels overwhelmed to just start.
Choose one thing that would engage the entire company.
Bring out the creativity of the organization.
Let everyone see and participate in the solutions.
No matter our level in the organization, we each contribute to decisions.
We should consider each one and the impact it will have on people, the planet, and profit.
Your Turn
As you go through your day today, what are three business decisions you are part of?
What are the people, planet, and profit impacts of each decision?
Are there alternatives that are better for all three?
