I just came across this chart from Statista that shows the increase in secondhand shopping in 8 different countries.  The US was second on the list moving from 49% in 2019 to 60% in 2023.

I was impressed by the increases from 2019-2023.

However, with the increase in online platforms to support those buying and selling items, it’s easier than ever to consider secondhand items as a viable alternative.

The research found that clothing, shoes, and games/movies/books were the top three categories where customers were purchasing secondhand.

My Story

Personally, I’ve had positive secondhand experiences.

My purchases have been in other areas like camera lenses, furniture, and supplies for events – decorations, cake stands, and more.

The place I haven’t been as productive is selling secondhand. There are many items around our house that have passed their useful life for us.

I struggle with getting them photographed and posted.

I think the challenge is the project seems too daunting.  I need to just start.

Your Turn

Have you bought or sold something secondhand in the last year?

What do you have around your house that could be posted today to resell?

Is there one item you want or need that you could shop secondhand instead of new?
