Today, September 22nd, is World Car Free Day.

The day encourages us to take a driving break and explore other options.

A 2021 study from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics found that 52% of all trips by car are under 3 miles, with 28% of those under a mile.

Imagine the collective impact we could have if we all considered walking or biking for those <1mile trips.

My Story

I spent the last several days in New York City.

You walk everywhere with no need for a car.

1-2 miles seems “close” and there is an energy that comes with lots of people walking.

Your Turn

Can you avoid driving today?

Is there an errand you can walk to instead of driving?

If you need to drive today, are there ways to keep your miles lower than normal?
